Ontario Human Rights Code/Equal Employment Opportunity
The Ontario Human Rights Code (the "Code") states that it is public policy to recognize the inherent dignity and worth of every person, and to provide for equal rights and opportunities without discrimination. Employment decisions should be based on the applicant's ability to do the job and not on factors that are unrelated to the job.
University Settlement is an equal opportunity employer and recognizes that under the Human Rights Code, we are obligated to accommodate all staff upon request. Reasonable accommodation will be made for persons with disabilities.
The Code prohibits discrimination in employment on the grounds of race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, age, record of offences, marital status, same-sex partnership status, family status and handicap (physical or mental). This policy applies to hiring, recruiting, training, placement, promotion, transfer, leave of absences, termination, and compensation. Violation of this policy is strictly prohibited.
University Settlement Code of Behavior
This Code of Behaviour is intended to ensure a fun, safe environment for all users. All staff, volunteers and users are expected to follow this code.
University Settlement prohibits the following:
- Violent or threatening conduct including the possession of a weapon while on the premises.
- Harassment (and/or sexual) of any individual for any reason – actions, words, jokes or comments based on an individual’s sex, race, ethnicity, age, religion or any other characteristic will not be tolerated.
- Profane or abusive language.
- Creating a nuisance by loitering, sleeping in the lobby, accosting or frightening other users.
- Interfering with the use of services in this community recreation centre, including vandalism and theft.
- Being on premises in a state of intoxication by any means or possessing alcohol or drugs. Additionally, there is no smoking on University Settlement premises.
Should any of these codes be broken, consequences could include expulsion and removal of all privileges. This code is enforceable by the staff of University Settlement and the Toronto Police.
