UNIVERSITY SETTLEMENT MUSIC & ARTS SCHOOL

 

EAR TRAINING/SIGHT SINGING TEACHER
(SOLFEGE PREFERRED)
From September 2010

 

Qualifications
A Bachelor's level degree in Music, or a general Arts/Education degree, or equivalent training; teaching experience with adults and children; good working knowledge of spoken and written English.  Ability to speak a second language an asset.

Responsibilities

To teach ear training and sight singing classes to adults, and possibly children, using established methods such as Solfege, Kodaly, Dalcroze, etc. Solfege is preferred. Familiarity with the Royal Conservatory ear training and sight reading/singing requirements is essential.
          
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Police Reference Check, satisfactory to University Settlement is a requirement of this position. Where potential staff will have direct contact with children or vulnerable persons, the Police Reference Check will include a request for information about the candidate under the Mental Health Act.

 

Rate of pay
$22.52 per hour -Includes 40 cents in lieu of benefits.  Unionized position.

GROUP TEACHER (CHORAL)
(CHILDREN’S CHOIR CONDUCTOR)
Beginning October, 2010

Qualifications
A Bachelor's level degree in Music, or a general Arts/Education degree with a specialization in music, or equivalent training; Experience in choral conducting. Two years teaching experience with groups of children; ability to work successfully with groups of children from different backgrounds: good working knowledge of spoken and written English. Ability to speak a second language is an asset.

Responsibilities
To conduct our children’s choir in a variety of styles of music focusing on vocal technique, diction, group dynamics and elementary note reading.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Police Reference Check, satisfactory to University Settlement is a requirement of this position.
